Monika Wood

Company Director /Manager/ SENCo / Designated Safeguarding Officer

I am a married mum of three children and two stepchildren.  After leaving the Civil Service to have my children, I started my career as a childminder, which I enjoyed for several years.  I completed my Level 3 before continuing my educational career path. I eventually stopped at my Level 7 (PGCE) to have a rest! However, I still love to learn new and wonder things to support our children and their families (I say a rest, but you will always find me with a book learning!).

I have worked in the Early years sector now for 14 years and just love to help shape a childs learning and development.  I am a firm believer that children learn best in their early years through play and their developing brains are like a dry sponge.  It is for us, as adults and educators to feed the sponge with water of knowledge, imagination and creativity.

I am a member of The Dingley’s Promise, and Selby Inclusion Locality Board, representing the early years. In my spare time, I love being with my family and doing a spot of DIY!

I’m a very proud Mum of two beautiful boys. After studying music at University, I went on to have my first son, which spurred me on to open my own mother and baby classes. Whilst doing this I found a love of working with young children. I soon went on to joining a nursery and gained my qualifications too. I progressed to baby room leader and then decided to open my own childminding business. I’m so happy to be part of the HeadStart family and will definitely bring lots of music with me too! I love to sing, dance, generally be a bit daft and will always bring fun, positive energy and lots of smiles to the day!

Early Years Educator

I am a married mum of one and have worked in the childcare sector for 17 years.  I worked at a nursery with all age ranges, before coming to Headstart to work solely in preschool.

I absolutely love working with children, as working in the early years, for me, is deeply personal and driven by a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of young children. My experience working in early years has given me a completely different outlook on life. Children constantly learn and discover things, and as they do so, they grow more independent. Their accomplishments become more meaningful to them as they become more independent, no matter how big or small. Whenever I think about the simple things in life, I feel as happy as a child, and it’s a pleasant sensation. I feel a different satisfaction level when I celebrate my small achievements every day.  Working with children allows me to be as silly as I want all the time! How many people have that ability? Being paid for goofing around with children is a win-win situation both for the pocket and the brain, which gets saturated with all the adult interactions.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and friends.

Qualifications held:

I’m married and have a daughter.  After leaving school, I went straight into childcare and gained my Level 3.  I have worked in childcare for 19 years and really enjoy it.  There is always something new to learn. Children fascinate me, how each child is different, and all learn in their own way. The friendships and bonds you make with children and their families are special.

When I am not at work, I’m spending my time with my family/friends or supporting Castleford Tigers.

Harriet Wilson

Early Years Educator

I am a happy, loving, and devoted mum of two.  I have worked in Early Years for 10 years, and I love it more and more each passing year.  I absolutely love working with young children, to help nurture and support their learning journey.  I love being a part of their development and love working with their families, building that all important trust and bond. Furthermore, working in the early year’s world is like opening a box of chocolates daily, where what you get is never predictable.

There is no such thing as a boring day because the children keep me constantly engaged. It never gets tiring watching each child’s face light up with enthusiasm (and even perplexity!) when they are exposed to something new.

Outside of work, I love being outdoors and going for long walks with my family.  I also LOVE cats!

Qualifications held:

Level 3 Diploma in children and young peoples workforce, 12 hour 1st aid Paediatric, Food safety, Child Sexual Exploitation, Female Genital Mutilation, Safeguarding,The Prevent Duty, Equality and Inclusion, Send Code of Practice, Health and Safety

Early Years Educator

I am a mum of two, married happily and loving life.  I got into childcare because I absolutely love children. I love dancing and singing with the children in the preschool, and I am so creative, thinking of what other messy and fun things the children can learn from! Often, you may see my doing a spot of yoga, or running around the field with the children, and I just love it!  I am the sportiest team member!

Working in childcare is a noble and fulfilling field that brings out the essence of people’s creativity, energy, and passion. I feel a deep sense of joy every time I am presented with opportunities to nurture the minds of young, curious children. I help them learn about the world around them.

In my spare time, I enjoy camping, dancing, and spending time with my family.
